Cuesta Verde Poltergeist

Cuesta Verde is the suburban neighborhood located in a valley in California, USA, and it is where the events of the Poltergeist film series began. Basically, the fictional Cuesta Verde housing development company built this housing tract over an old cemetery, but rather than relocating the headstones and the bodies…they only moved the headstones. When Steve Freeling moves his family into a new house in the development where he is the top homes salesman, it looks like things are going well for him and his family. But one night the youngest child, Carol Anne, hears a voice from inside the television set. A number of other bizarre occurrences follow, including an earthquake, that only the Freelings feel, glasses and utensils, that spontaneously break or bend, and the ominous announcement by Carol Anne that the ghosts are there with them.

Poltergeist (1982)

Poltergeist tells the story of the Freeling family, who live in a community called Cuesta Verde in California. The story begins when the Freeling’s youngest daughter awakens one night and begins talking to the television that is showing static. Something comes out of the TV and triggers a violent earthquake, then more bizarre events follow. The ghosts communicate only with Carol Anne through the family’s television set, and are under the control of a demon known as the “Beast.” The ghosts, attracted to Carol Anne’s life force and believing she will help lead them into the “Light”, abduct her through her bedroom closet, which acts as a portal to their dimension. Most of the film involves the efforts to rescue her on the part of her family, a group of parapsychologists and a spiritual medium named Tangina Barrons (Zelda Rubinstein). Carol Anne is eventually retrieved from the other side and, following a second attack by the Beast that reveals the ghosts had originated from an improperly relocated cemetery underneath the neighborhood, the family flees Cuesta Verde, while the house caves in on itself and is sucked into another dimension.
