Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
In the movie Forrest Gump, Forrest promises his friend Benjamin Buford “Bubba” Blue in Vietnam that if they make it out of the war alive, they will go into the shrimping business together.
As a promise to his best friend Bubba, Forrest buys a shrimp boat and begins the Bubba Gump’s Shrimp Company.
One of the highlights of the film was a fishing boat named Jenny, which was named after the woman he loved.
While Forrest initially struggled to find success in the shrimping business, a turning point came when Lieutenant Dan Taylor, Forrest’s former commanding officer, unexpectedly arrived in Alabama. Lieutenant Dan, who had lost his legs during combat, joined Forrest as his first mate on the shrimp boat. Their journey faced a significant challenge when a massive and unexpected hurricane struck the Gulf Coast, causing widespread destruction.
Miraculously, Forrest and Lieutenant Dan’s boat, the Jenny, was the only one to survive the storm. Following the hurricane, the duo found shrimping to be incredibly profitable and straightforward. Their business flourished, and they decided to establish the “Bubba Gump Shrimp Company,” a venture named in honor of their fallen friend Bubba and their shared experiences during the war.
The success of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company caught the attention of the media, and Forrest and Lieutenant Dan’s accomplishments were showcased on the front cover of Fortune magazine. This marked a significant milestone in their journey, solidifying their newfound wealth and recognition in the industry.
